With 34 years in the industry, Jim Barnes joined the Wells Nelson team in December of 2007. Jim attended the University of Oklahoma from 1969 to 1973. He graduated with a BA in Finance. Jim began his career in 1973 working in Oklahoma City for First National Bank & Trust as an Assistant Vice-President in the securities department. From 1979 to 1995, Jim worked for Stifel Nicolaus as Vice-President of Institutional Sales. The Oklahoma and Texas offices of Stifel Nicolaus were purchased by Capital West Securities in 1995 where Jim continued his career as Senior Vice-President of Institutional Sales through 2007. Wells Nelson is very involved in improving the overall quality of life and growth within the state by being one of the largest underwriters of infrastructure and municipal financing in Oklahoma. Jim looks forward to providing the best personal service and products for his client ranging from individuals to commercial banks and trust departments and institutional buyers such as mutual funds and insurance companies.
Jim is also involved at the University of Oklahoma through his participation on the Board of Advisors of the Michael Price School of Business where he was chairman between 2000 and 2004. He is also active as the designated “Broker of Record” for the Student Investment Fund which focuses on value investing at the Michael Price School of Business.
Jim holds Series 7, 24 and 63 certifications.
